The exact cause of plaque psoriasis is unknown. However, we do know that the immune system, environmental factors, and family history can play a role. The immune system sends faulty signals causing skin cells to grow too quickly. New skin cells form in days rather than weeks, causing cells to pile up on the surface of the skin and form psoriatic plaques.

LEARN MORE ABOUT PLAQUE PSORIASIS AND SEE WHAT IT LOOKS LIKE

Your doctor will prescribe a plaque psoriasis treatment for you based on how severe your condition is, how much of your body is affected, where your plaque psoriasis is on your body, and your medical history.

  • Topical Creams: Used directly on the surface of your skin and are usually the first treatment considered.
  • Phototherapy or Light Therapy: Your skin, or just the psoriatic plaque, is exposed to ultraviolet light (UVB rays or psoralen plus UVA rays [PUVA]) on a regular basis and under medical supervision.
  • Biologics (for moderate to severe plaque psoriasis): Injectable treatments that target specific proteins within your body that may play a key role in your plaque psoriasis.
  • Oral systemic therapies: Pills that work either throughout the body or on specific inflammatory cells thought to affect the process of plaque psoriasis.

No. TREMFYA® is not a steroid. TREMFYA® is a biologic that works to target an overactive immune system, a possible cause of plaque psoriasis. It blocks the action of interleukin-23, or IL-23, one of the proteins that may play a role in plaque psoriasis.

The active ingredient in TREMFYA® is called guselkumab. TREMFYA® is manufactured by Janssen Biotech, Inc., Horsham, PA 19044, U.S. License No. 1864.

TREMFYA® is not for everyone; only your doctor can decide if it’s right for you. Do not use if you are allergic to TREMFYA®. TREMFYA® is a prescription medicine that may cause serious side effects, including serious allergic reactions and infections. TREMFYA® affects your immune system. It may increase your risk of infections and lower your ability to fight them. Please read the Important Safety Information below and the Medication Guide for TREMFYA® to learn more about these and other risks for TREMFYA®. Discuss any questions you have with your doctor.

The most common side effects of TREMFYA® include: upper respiratory infections, headache, injection site reactions, joint pain (arthralgia), diarrhea, stomach flu (gastroenteritis), fungal skin infections, herpes simplex infections, and bronchitis.

These are not all the possible side effects of TREMFYA®. Call your doctor for medical advice about side effects. You may report side effects to FDA at 1-800-FDA-1088.

You should not receive a live vaccine while taking TREMFYA®. Before receiving TREMFYA®, tell your doctor if you have recently received or are scheduled to receive an immunization (vaccine). It is important to read the Important Safety Information located on this website.

Everyone responds to treatment differently. But in clinical studies, at least 7 out of 10 patients on TREMFYA® saw at least 90% clearer skin at week 16, after just 3 doses (weeks 0, 4, and 12). And in that same time, more than 8 out of 10 patients were rated clear or almost clear. In a clinical study, most patients who saw 90% clearer skin at 28 weeks stayed clearer through 48 weeks. In another clinical study, nearly 7 out of 10 patients with 90% clearer skin at 16 weeks were still clearer at 5 years. At 1 year and thereafter, patients and healthcare providers knew that TREMFYA® was being used. This may have increased results. Results may vary.
